Ring Out and Ring In

　　辞旧迎新钟儿欢

　　Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,        漫天钟声喜欲狂,

　　The flying cloud, the frosty light,          白云如飞星如霜,

　　The year is dying in the night;             夜里旧岁悄然去;

　　Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.        辞岁钟声响叮当。

　　Ring out the old, ring in the new,           辞旧迎新钟儿响，

　　Ring, happy bells, across the snow.         幸福钟声雪野荡，

　　The year is going, let him go;              作别旧岁何所叹？

　　Ring out the false, ring in the truth          送走虚伪真诚扬。

　　Ring out old shapes of foul disease;         钟声送走旧顽疾，

　　Ring out the narrowing lust of gold;         送走狭隘贪财欲；

　　Ring out the thousand wars of old,          送走兵慌马乱日，

　　Ring in the thousand years of peace.         迎来万世和平时。

　　The whole poem is based on abba rhythm and its sentence structure is neatly done. The poem is written in plain English, but it expresses deep feelings and gives readers food for thought.

　　First, the sound of bells becomes the main topic of the whole poem. The sound of “Ring Out and Ring In” is resounding to skies, reverberating throughout mountains and valleys and adding the strong moving and harmony to the poem. 

　　Then, the poem quotes “twinkle stars” and “piercing snow” in contrast with warmly happy bells, which makes the cold winter full of colors of spring.

　　In the end, the poet prays that all diseases, false and wars are gone with the “Ring Out Bells” and that the truth, goodness, beauty and peace will last forever. The good wishes like bells are resounding throughout every corner of the world.

　　The poem is meaningful with few sentences, resounding again and again. It is a really good poem touching readers’ hearts.
