陈海新，上海中医药大学88级学生，患先天性小脑扁桃体疝和颈髓空洞症。虽大半身都处于瘫痪，却用那唯一灵活些的右手帮病人搭脉、开方，14年如一日。献出自己年仅37岁的生命，在生命的最后时刻，立下了“我要把自己的角膜和遗体捐献出来，你们要支持我”的遗嘱。
HaiXin Chen was an 88-grade alum of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The terrible news of her passing away saddens the whole university. We all feel grieved about this. She was so great that every one of us should learn from her from the bottom of our heart.
HaiXin Chen suffered from tonsil hernia of congenital cerebellum and neck marrow cavity disease from her birth. Although the fate seemed to be unfair to her, she never gave in. During her study in the university, she tried her best to learn more than anyone else in her class. And she did it: she was one of the best students in her class. She believed in the huge power of faith and knowledge. She thought with her medical knowledge and treating skills, she could change the life of herself and also others.
After several years’ medical study here, she graduated with honor, excellent in many aspects. She then worked as a common traditional Chinese doctor in a hospital. With more than half of her body paralysed, for all the 14 years, she had been putting up pulse and prescribing only with her right hand, the only movable one. While working, Dr.Chen drank very little water in order not to waste the patients’ time, since for her, going to the toilet was a great trouble and took much time. Considering the patients’ financial burden, she never prescribed any expensive medicine if the par medicine could effect. The colleagues and the patients all admired her very much.
Only 37-year-old, very unwillingly, she left the world. Dedicating herself to the society as she had been, at the last moment of her life, she wrote the dying words “I want to donate out my cornea and remains for the medical research, and you should support me……”.
She has left, but her spirit is still here. We advocate that all the students should learn from Dr. Chen, work hard in study, try to improve our overall qualities and carry on the spirit of healing and rescuing the wounded; so that someday we could make contributions to the medical and heath cause of our country and the improvement of physical and mental health of the whole mankind.
